Our board members have all been successful CEOs with broad public market experience. Our combined prior equity raising successes total nearly $1B. We have relationships with almost all of the tier 1 and tier 2 investment bankers in Canada; and a high quality network of investors, analysts and fund managers spanning the major Canadian, US and European financial centers. We each have active personal investment portfolios and invest our own money in the companies we finance.
Joel Dumaresq
Joel has been an active investor, board member and advisor in many technology-based businesses in Canada and the US over the past 2 decades. He is the co-founder and managing partner of Matrix Partners Inc., a Canadian private-equity and merchant banking group.
Joel is also currently serving as Chairman for the Paramount Pallet Inc. Board of Directors, a 200 person, $40M/year business. Mr. Dumaresq has also been CEO of Greenwater Forest Products, which specializes in forestry and wood products since 1995. Prior to joining with Greenwater Forest Products he worked in financial services and investment banking for RBC Dominion Securities from 1985 to 1995. Mr. Dumaresq received a bachelor degree from the UBC in Economics and Psychology, and is a recipient of Canada's highest civilian award for bravery - the Star of Courage.
Dr. J. Basil Peters
Basil is an active, early-stage investor and currently manages the angel fund: www.FundamentalTechnologiesII.com. As part of his goal of 'putting something back', Basil works on a blog propagating best practices for angel investors and entrepreneurs at: www.AngelBlog.net. He is also a regular contributor to: www.TheAngelJournal.com.
Basil has a PhD in Electrical Engineering from UBC and has been a tech CEO in Canada and in Silicon Valley in the areas of cable-TV based delivery of multi-media content, both from the aspect of carrier infrastructure equipment and set-top box development and deployment (Click here for Basil's full resume). Gregg Sedun
Gregg is now an independent investor. As a former corporate finance/securities lawyer having practiced law for 14 years, he transitioned to the role of President of a private venture capital firm for 7 years, and then became President & CEO of Diamond Fields International Ltd., a TSX listed company, for over two years.
Gregg has played a significant role as founder, director or early stage investor in a number of very successful companies including Diamond Fields Resources (acquired for $4.3B in the largest take over ever of a junior mining company); Adastra Minerals (recently acquired by First Quantum Minerals for $300M); Peru Copper Inc. (acquired for $840M by Chinalco); Ascalade Communications ($40M IPO in 2005 on TSX Exchange - revenues of US$115M); and, Neurovir (acquired by Medigene, a leading German biotech for US$40M).
Derek Spratt
Derek has been an active early stage investor, mentor, advisor and board member in local technology firms for the past 15 years. He has also been a contributor to the technology community via his board level involvement in Acetech - the Academy of technology CEOs, and the Vancouver Enterprise Forum. Additionally, he has worked to promote science curriculum to local K-12 students via philanthropic engagements with Science World BC and the Vancouver School Foundation.
Derek has a BSc in Electrical Engineering from Queens and has been active in the local technology community since 1982, first as a product designer, and later in leadership positions, most recently as Founder and CEO of Intrinsyc Software International Inc (1996-2006). Other local firms Derek has worked for include: Consequent Technologies (CEO), PCS Wireless (past-President/EVP), Ernex (Advisor), Nexus Engineering (VP), Motorola (Product Manager), Integra Systems (Designer), Canysco Systems (Designer) and DBA Telecom.
